Welcome to the Homepage of Bread + Fish

"Bread + Fish" is a long-term communication project for the entire Baltic Sea Region. Its objective is to encourage social institutions to share responsibility for our common cultural heritage, economic area, and habitat, the Baltic Sea. Moreover, shared values and visions for the Baltic Sea Region should be developed and introduced into planning processes.

"Caring for the Baltic – Bread + Fish" is the motto of the project for which the Ecumenical Foundation for the Preservation of Creation and Sustainability* assumes responsibility

Bread + Fish has been recognised by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the context of the governments' National Strategy for Sustainability. This is how the government promotes initiatives of the civil society that offer pioneering, transferable contributions for local sustainability in cities or municipalities.

The projects' contents have to be in line with and promote the implementation of the objectives of the federal governments' National Strategy for Sustainability and the framework programme "Research for Sustainability" (FONA) that has been launched by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The creation of this federal programme was encouraged by the German Council for Sustainable Development. The Council advises the federal government on its sustainability policy and contributes to the strategies' implementation by offering proposals in regard to objectives, indicators, and projects.

"Bread + Fish" has also been designated as an official project of the UN World Decade of Education for Sustainable Development by the UNESCO's German National Committee.
